Excavator Operator

Responsibilities

  • Dig trenches and move dirt with excavators for watermains and pump stations.
  • Set up shoring and backfill to keep excavations safe and tidy.
  • Pitch in with heavy lifting and site cleanup when needed.
  • Give equipment a once-over daily to ensure it’s good to go.
  • Work carefully near live water lines to avoid trouble.
  • Jot down clear notes on equipment use and upkeep.
  • Team up with mates to hit project deadlines.
  • Stick to safety rules and wear proper PPE like respirators.
  • Follow survey markers to dig with precision.
  • Jump in for night shifts or overtime on big projects.
  • Toss out ideas to make the site run smoother or safer.
  • Chat with customers onsite in a polite, professional way.
  • Handle final trim work for clean, quality finishes.
  • Flag equipment problems or safety risks to the boss ASAP.

Requirements

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Must have valid excavator tickets (SOA/VOC) and a White Card.

Experience

2 years of civil utilities experience, including trenching, shoring, and backfilling. Time on 25-40 tonne excavators is a bonus.

  • Handy with excavators, digging with accuracy and care.
