Job Title

Blaster/Painter

Responsibilities

• Prep and coat underground longwall equipment to meet site specs.
• Mix two-pack paint systems accurately for each job.
• Run airless and conventional spray gear with skill and care.
• Protect sensitive parts like bearings and gearboxes from blast media.
• Maintain blasting and painting tools, filling out upkeep reports.
• Help with steam cleaning and other trade tasks as needed.
• Meet project deadlines while keeping work up to high standards.
• Show apprentices the ropes on proper work methods.
• Follow strict safety rules on every shift.
• Keep the work area tidy and hazard-free.
• Log all work and report equipment issues promptly.
• Support teammates to get projects done on time.
• Update job records and maintenance schedules.
• Work safely in dusty or noisy site conditions.
• Pitch in on other site duties when asked.

Requirements

Education

• Trade qualification in blasting/painting or equivalent is preferred.
• Valid tickets for confined spaces or working at heights are a plus.

Experience

• 5+ years as a Blaster/Painter, ideally in underground mining.
• Experience with longwall equipment or heavy machinery painting is highly valued.

Skills

• Spot-on skills with spray painting and surface prep.
• Good at reading and following technical paint specs.
• Works well with a crew and communicates clearly.
• Safe and careful with blasting and painting gear.
• Keeps up with tight schedules without cutting corners.
• Fit for physical tasks like lifting or standing for long periods.

Knowledge

• Solid know-how of two-pack paint systems and application.
• Familiar with underground mining equipment and standards.
• Up to speed on workplace safety and hazard controls.
• Understands quality checks for coatings and finishes.
• Basic grasp of mechanical systems like gearboxes or bearings.
• Knowledge of Aussie mining industry standards is a bonus.
